"Beef and vegetable stew is hot, hearty and wholesome."
500g – 1kg of gravy beef, round steak or similar
2 medium carrots diced
6 potatoes diced
1 onion brown chopped
1 cup chopped celery (optional)
2 Tblspns gravy powder and 1 Tbspn curry powder mixed in cup of water (or alternatively you can use a packet of stew mix)
1 Dessert spn sugar
1/3 cup tomato sauce
Salt and pepper, to taste
This recipe requires a large camp oven (6 quart at least). Place diced beef in camp oven and cover just enough with sufficient water. Cover pot and cook until tender. Add vegetables and cook until all tender. Add gravy mix towards the end and stir well. You can add more water if required and simmer for approx 10-15 minutes.
Serves 6-8. Modify recipe to suit individual needs, however leftovers are always great the next day. Add or omit vegetables to suit your individual tastes. You can use any veggies in stews.
Serve on its own or with rice, pasta or crusty bread.
