The Cheese Heritage Centre is a replica of the original creamery dating back to 1899. The centre is now a major tourist attraction for those passing through the region. Cheese tasting is of course first on the agenda and there are many varieties to choose from. Some mild, some creamy, some with a bit of kick, there’s cheeses to suit everyone’s tastebuds and they are all delicious. The cheese tasting centre sells a huge variety of cheeses and many other gourmet delights to accompany them. The centre also has a museum featuring historical equipment involved in milking and the butter and cheese making processes. The on-site café serves home-made meals, refreshments and morning and afternoon teas and the Spotted Cow Gallery sells local art and craft. There’s plenty to see and do at the Cheese Heritage Centre and next time you buy a block of their cheese you’ll know exactly where it came from.

The township is situated amongst scenic pastoral countryside and is surrounded by rolling green hills and pastures, perfect for the cows and their milk supply. The beautiful scenery and township can be seen from the Valley Lookout, just north of town on the Princes Hwy.

Kiss Lagoon, on Poplar Ave, comprises picturesque wetlands attracting local birdlife. It’s a lovely scenic spot for a picnic on the banks, watching the birds and feeding the ducks. The lagoon is a great place for the weary traveller to stop for a cuppa or a bite and revive the driver.

Bega is one of those brands and towns that many Australians can associate with. After all they’ve been around for over 100 years and who hasn’t tasted a slice of their cheese at some stage. Support a proud Australian company and call in on your travels, after all entry is free and so is the cheese (tasting).
