Budget Travel Insurance

Budget Travel Insurance is an integral part of travelling overseas. They say if you can’t afford travel insurance then you can’t afford to travel. It’s a small price to pay to ensure you are covered for a variety of scenarios which might possibly occur before or during your holiday.

What if something unexpected happens and you have to cancel your trip? You miss your flight? You may become ill or injured and if this happens overseas you are personally liable for all medical expenses out of your own pocket. Theft and loss of valuables is another common occurrence. Emergency situations and evacuations caused by environmental or anti-social factors can also result in extreme financial loss if you aren’t covered whilst holidaying in a foreign country. Consider all these potential circumstances and imagine being in one of these situations in the middle of your long awaited holiday and how you’d cope without the support of insurance.

The main hesitation we all experience when deciding whether to take out the insurance, in many instances, not just travel, is of course the cost. But when you weigh up the pros and the cons, the pros win every time. The cost of your budget travel insurance depends on numerous factors in your individual situation, such as age, health, holiday destination and length of trip. You may also want extra cover for items that aren’t included in the standard insurance contract, such as covering valuables at a nominated amount, which increases the premium. Take note some items are also limited or excluded by insurance companies such as participating in dangerous activities, being under the influence of drugs or alcohol and pre-existing medical conditions.

Before signing on the dotted line and agreeing to the insurance contract, always read the fine print and make certain you know exactly what you are covered for and not covered for. Will they cover you if your trip is cancelled or you are advised by authorities not to travel to your particular destination at this time? Are you going to be engaging in extreme sports? Consider all aspects of your holiday plan and ensure you are covered accordingly during your travels. You may have to pay a bit extra on the premium for additional activities or possible events but at least you’ll have comfort knowing you are covered and you can go about enjoying your holiday which is of course the main objective here.
