Evans Head

Evans Head is located 79km south of Byron Bay in the Richmond Valley. The quiet seaside town is nestled on the banks of the Evan River and offers a peaceful getaway amongst pleasant surroundings.

Airforce Beach on Terrace St is a long stretch of beach with headland views to the south. Four-wheel drive access is permitted on the northern section and dogs are allowed. This beach has plenty of surf and is patrolled by lifeguards during summer.

evans-head-clarrie-kirkland-reserve Chinaman’s Beach is very scenic and bordered by headland either side. There is plenty of surf at this beach for the keen body surfers. Note that dogs are prohibited.

Clarrie Kirkland Reserve on the Evan River bank in town is a beautiful place to enjoy the calm waterway and barbeque or picnic on the well maintained foreshore. The picturesque river banks offer safe swimming and pretty beaches, the perfect spot to take the family. Dogs are prohibited.

Razorback Lookout on the Goanna Headland provides stunning views of the town, river and coastline. A shady picnic area with barbeque facilities overlooks the fabulous scenery on offer here.

There is one tourist park here, the Silver Sands Caravan Park, which is located on the banks of the Evan River in town. The centrally located park in a picturesque setting makes it a beautiful and relaxing holiday destination away from the crowds. There might only be one park, however it claims to be one of the largest in the state.

This area also has two national parks to explore, making great day trips whilst holidaying here. Broadwater National Park is just north of town and offers beaches and bushwalking. This park is quite small but worth checking out all the same.

Bundjalung National Park is south of town and stretches for kilometres along the coast to the fishing village of Iluka. This beautiful park offers several gorgeous beaches, coastal lookouts, rainforest and headland walks, four-wheel drive beach access and camping. Enjoy a day trip from Evans Head or stay a while in the park and swim, surf and fish.

This region is an appealing getaway location with plenty of waterways to enjoy, whether it be safe, calm swimming in the river and inlet or braving the surf on one of the many breaks. The scenery is pleasant, the setting is relaxing and the pace is slow and steady. If you’re looking for a quiet and carefree place away from the crowds Evans Head would suit nicely.
