Port Denison Dongara

Port Denison Dongara are nestled side by side on the coast 65km south of Geraldton. The area has plenty of holiday accommodation, scenic coastline and central marina with many facilities including boat ramp, ample parking and a picnic area with toilets and playground overlooking the marina.

Fishermans Memorial Scenic Lookout on Harbour Drive offers panoramic views of the ocean, marina and town from above. It’s only a short walk from the carpark on Harbour Drive or there is a staircase located on Fishermans Drive.

A protected beach is situated not far from the marina in town and close to shops. With a grassy area and picnic tables nearby it makes a nice place to relax with the family knowing the swimming area is safe for the kids.

The Irwin River Mouth Lookout on Church St provides views of the contrasting colours of the deep blue Indian Ocean, the muddy brown Irwin River Estuary and the surrounding forest green vegetation. Several walking trails start from the lookout exploring the river mouth and coastline. Walks vary from 1.5 to 3.4km and information is displayed at the lookout. Common bird species seen along the trails are the Black-winged Stilt, Great Egret and Black Swan to name a few. Plant life includes Native Wisteria, Wild Sarsaparilla, Sea Box, Hop Bush, Camel Bush and Cockies Tongues.

port-denison-dongara-seaspray Seaspray Beachis located at the end of Church St where there is also holiday accommodation right on the beach. Seaweed was prolific on our visit but obviously that is not always the case. Steep drop offs make it a great beach for fishing. Strong rip warnings indicate inexperienced swimmers should be very cautious. In the case of being caught in a rip always swim parallel to the shore and try not to struggle.

Port Denison Dongara area is inviting and the appeal of sun, surf and sand is simply too good to resist.
