Rapid Bay is located 100km south of Adelaide on the western side of the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula, on the shores of the Gulf St Vincent. Purely a camping and fishing location flanked by enormous headlands, this scenic holiday location is casual, carefree and cheap too ($6 per adult per night).
The large camp ground is grassy and well maintained with magnificent views and you are free to select your own patch of grass on which to set up camp.
There is running water available, toilet facilities and dogs are permitted on lead at the camp ground and on the beach. The beach is pebbly and the views down here are pretty impressive.
There is a huge jetty to the left and fishermen catch Tommy Ruff, Trevally, Garfish, Cuttlefish and Squid.
Rapid Bay is a beautiful and peaceful
spot. Transient travellers looking for cheap overnight camping or those wishing to set up for a while and relax or fish will love this picturesque place.
Within 20km continuing northeast along the peninsula coastline towards Adelaide there are a couple of other picturesque beaches with camping facilities.
Second Valley is just a few km’s along and is a quiet little holiday village with a caravan park and no shops. The gorgeous beach is small and cosy, protected by stunning headlands either side and there is a jetty from which to fish whilst appreciating the marvellous scenery.
is about15km along from Second Valley and is the closest town with shops and services. The beach is beautiful and the foreshore consists of well maintained lawn. There is a café and surf life saving club. Dogs are permitted on lead and there is a beachside caravan park.
These beautiful beaches at the bottom of the Fleurier Peninsula make relaxing holiday destinations away from the busy city and aren’t too far from Adelaide either. Fishing, swimming, camping and appreciating the scenic surrounds are all on the cards in this area.
