Sawtell is located 9km south of Coffs Harbour on a stunning piece of coastline with two creek inlets, Boambee and Bonville Creeks. The picturesque village is a fabulous holiday location by the sea and just down the road from beautiful Coffs.
This township has some remarkable lookouts. The Main Lookout involves an easy 500m walk over headland to stunning views of Boambee Creek and the coastline. The scenery is superb and the walk most enjoyable.
Boronia Street Lookout overlooks the Main Beach and around to the Bonville Creek mouth. There is a walkway down to the beach here, with good swimming and plenty of rocky outcrop to fish from.
The Surf Beach in town is a popular hangout. Accessible via 2nd Avenue this beach hosts the surf club, is regularly patrolled by lifeguards and operates a kiosk serving refreshments. Dogs are prohibited at this surf and swim beach.
Boambee Creek Reserve is a beautiful area beside the creek with barbeque and picnic facilities, a kiosk and access to the creek for swimming and canoeing. Entry costs $5 per vehicle and dogs are permitted on leads. If you’re not willing to pay the entry fees don’t drive in there as you have to enter through a manned boom gate and cannot turn your vehicle around.
Bonville Creek is also a great swimming spot though the creek bed is rocky as opposed to sandy, as is at Boambee Creek. No entry fees apply here, the Lions Park is directly across the road with barbeque and picnic facilities and dogs are permitted.
There is one caravan park in town, the Sawtell Beach Caravan Park. The Koala Villas Caravan Park is just north of town at Boambee.
This gorgeous coastal township is a delightfully scenic place to soak up the sun and enjoy the magnificent waterways. Swimming, surfing, sightseeing and fishing are on the cards in this water lover’s paradise.
