The Dandenongs is located some 40km southeast of Melbourne

Sky High Mount Dandenong is on Observatory Rd and entry fees of $5 per vehicle apply. A licensed bistro with outdoor balcony and scenic views serves food and beverages throughout the day and what a setting in which to enjoy a delicious lunch or aromatic coffee. Alternatively pack a picnic and stroll through the delightful gardens until you find a quiet nook or cranny to nestle in and relax. After lunch enjoy the mountain air on one of the walking trails through the Mountain Ash Forest.
Garden lovers will be in awe of the stunning National Rhododendron Gardens
at Olinda. These magnificent flowers of vivid colours and impressive blooms bring the gardens to life with their flourishing vitality. Wandering through the spectacular display is thoroughly enjoyable and you’ll be amazed at the brilliance of colour on show. The gardens also feature many other plant species including the striking Protea which stands out imposingly. The gardens are open daily between 10am and 4.30pm and entry is free.
is a pretty mountain township with quaint old buildings and charming elegance. This village is a delightful place to enjoy a traditional Devonshire or High Tea, indulge in a fabulous meal or treat yourself to some retail therapy in the unique mountain shops.
The Sassafras Gully Tourist Track begins in town and leads through fern gullies and dense forest o the township of Emerald 15km away. A short 1km loop or 2.5km Beagley’s Bridge walk can be enjoyed by the less energetic and still experience the cool mountain forest experience.
Belgrave in the south of the region is the home of Puffing Billy Railway and the iconic steam trains which travel the 50km route between Belgrave and Gembrook daily. Several tours are available including day trips coinciding with bus tour operators visiting nearby attractions, dining trains which provide Luncheons, Devonshire Teas or Wining and Dining and Thomas the Tank Engine which operates during Autumn and Spring. The railway stations are located on Monbulk Rd in Belgrave and Puffing Billy Place in Emerald.
The Dandenongs offers an escape from the not so distant busy city, to peace, tranquility and fresh air in the mountains.
